Trail Runner Of The Year
Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read
It's that time of year again. Trail Runner of the Year (TROY) voting is open now! This is the second edition of our annual end-of-season award, celebrating the great performances and the great athletes of the trail running season. As such, we've released a short podcast today talking about our goals for the award and some important improvements we've made for 2023.
Joining me to break it down is Travis Loncar, the creator of Freetrail Fantasy and the Trail Runner of the Year platform. We discuss some important updates to the voting algorithm, the brand new Trail Performance of the Year (TPOY) award, and some other details about this year's vote. For a full set of parameters, voting considerations, and instructions for 2023, visit this in depth article.
Voting will be open until 12pm PST on Monday, 12/11 with the rollout of winners beginning on January 1st, 2024. Let the toggling begin!
Love,
DBo
Good Morning, Austin
Today, the Freetrail Team is traveling to Austin, TX for the running industry's largest trade show, The Running Event (TRE). We’ll be doing daily interviews with brand reps, talking about their products and strategy in the trail category. Make sure you subscribe to our youtube channel to follow all the content. Thanks to BOA for sponsoring the show!
Speaking of Freetrail's head of all-things-tech, Travis Loncar was a guest on the Midpacker Podcast with Troy Meadows. The duo discuss Travis inspiration for creating the platform, the backend work that goes into maintaining it, and Travis's own experience running and volunteering at trail races.
Herbert Krabel checks in with another great athlete feature, this time with dynamic Aussie, Lucy Bartholomew! A longtime great performer and fan favorite, Lucy is evolving as an athlete. This piece highlights her recent UTMB / IRONMAN Kona double.
Shoutout to Freetrailer, Guillaume Hansel for a super solid run at JFK50 - the oldest ultra in North America.
A quote from Guillaume's race report in Slack:
"I managed to sneak in just under 6:50. Again not the A goal, but still proud of the effort given the circumstances. Could I have been more conservative and ran 6:30, yeah probably? But I am ambitious in all facets of my life. So when I line up at Black Canyons in February I will be ambitious again."
The latest footwear commission from Speedland is LIVE! The pre-order of the GS:OAK is underway with delivery planned for late December - just in time for Christmas. Inspired by Speedland athlete Liam Lonsdale and his training grounds in Oakland, CA, the GS:OAK might be my favorite commission yet. Make sure you use code Freetrail10 for 10% off.
