The Big Alta Registration is Open

As I slowly emerge from post-UTMB malaise, it's already time to start thinking about 2027 - specifically the fourth edition of The Big Alta.

Today we opened registration for the event, taking place March 19th-21st in my neighborhood, Marinwood, CA. In three short years, The Big Alta has become one of Freetrail's proudest co-creations, alongside our invaluable partners at Daybreak Racing. Together we're determined to make a good thing even better in 2027.

The Big Alta features three racing distances. See each at a glance below:

• ​28k - A perfect single-loop course measuring 17.5 miles with 4k', this is one of my bread-and-butter training routes from home.
• ​50k - A tough but runnable course measuring 31 miles with 6700' over four distinct climbs and descents. Enjoy 360 degree views of Marin County throughout.
• ​100k - Now a Western States 100 qualifier, The Big Alta 100k celebrates its second running in 2027. Featuring a unique point-to-point course starting underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, runners hit all the local highlights over 62 miles with 13k'.

Of course, there will be fun community activations around the event and in the lead up, which we'll spell out more in the coming months. We really hope you'll come join us next spring.

+ One of the most iconic multi-day races on Earth, Tor des Geants is officially underway in Italy. A 330k race with 24000m of climbing, TdG is basically like running UTMB twice but harder. Absolutely savage. Follow live here.

+ Run Rabbit Run 100 kicks off this Friday in Steamboat Springs, CO. We're again playing Fantasy for the event and Mountain Outpost will be onsite producing a livestream. Go pick 5-deep.

+ The Golden Trail World Series returns this Sunday in Japan at the Myoko Trail race. As usual, the races have stacked start lists even with series leaders Madalina Florea and Elhousine Elazzaoui sitting this stage out. Go pick 5-deep for Fantasy!

+ Ben Dhiman dropped a post-race YouTube after his completely insane victory at UTMB. While the race debrief was excellent, I'm still reeling from the cliff hanger at the very end!

+ Lauren Gregory also dropped her post-race YouTube after her OCC victory, something she describes as "the biggest win of her career." Love the anecdotes on fun and friendship.
